Health condition added to President Erdogan

Bulsha:- Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has canceled election campaign rallies, which he would have held on Wednesday and Thursday, due to health reasons, weeks before the May 14 presidential and parliamentary elections.

"Today, I will rest at home taking my doctor's advice," Erdogan tweeted on Wednesday.

"If God permits, we will continue our program tomorrow. I wish all our citizens health, peace and celebration," President Erdogan said.

Erdogan later on Tuesday cut short a TV interview, during which he said he was feeling stomachache.

Hours later, Erkan Kandemir, the vice president of the AKP Party, said that Erdogan also canceled Thursday's programs.

He was scheduled to attend the opening of the Akkuyu nuclear plant in the southern province of Mersin.

The opening of the Russian-built factory was set to be one of the biggest events in President Erdogan's election campaign.

President Erdogan has been running a non-stop election campaign to reverse the decline in public opinion, as shown by public opinion polls.

The election on May 14 is the most difficult for Erdogan, who has been in power for more than 20 years, either as prime minister or president, at a time when the cost of living has risen.

Erdogan faces a tough challenge from secular opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who represents a coalition of opposition parties.

President Erdogan's hopes have been undermined by the economic crisis and the strong impact of an earthquake that hit the country in February, which killed more than 50,000 people.
