Three separate investigations underway following Dundalk soldier's death in Lebanon attack

Bulsha:- A series of investigations are underway following the death of a young Dundalk soldier serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

Private Seán Rooney whose home unit the 27th Infantry battalion is based at Aiken Barracks in the town, died after two armoured vehicles carrying members of 121st Infantry Battalion came under fire near Sidon, around 30 miles south of Beirut.

Private Shane Kearney (22) from Cork was critically injured and two other soldiers were treated for minor injuries.

Four Irish soldiers who were travelling in the second vehicle escaped injury.
